Silica sol was fabricated by using tetraethyl orthosilicate, deionized water and ethanol as raw materials,and hydrochloride and dilute ammonia solution as catalyst for twostep acidbase catalytic process. The stability of the silica sol system was characterized by viscosity and gel time. The effect of deionized water, ethanol, pH,acidbase catalytic interval time and reaction temperature of silica sol system on the silica sol stability was investigated. The researched results show that the stability of silica sol is decreased firstly and then increased with the increasing of both deionized water and pH,but is decreased rapidly with the rising of reaction temperature and prolonging of acidbase catalytic interval time, and that increasing the amount of ethanol is beneficial to the stability of silica sol system.
