The morphologies of worn surfaces and the variation of friction coefficient and wear volume as function of cycles, load and frequency were analyzed. The wear mechanisms of AM60B magnesium alloy were also discussed. The results indicated that the fretting wear process of AM60B magnesium alloy could be divided into three stages namely the initial stage, the transitive stage where two body contact to three body contact and last but not least the stable stage. In the initial stage, fiction coefficient rapidly increased, as the number of cycle and the adherence wear was dominant mechanism. In the transitive stage for two bodies contact to three bodies contact, the wear volume lentamente increased and the friction coefficient lentamente decreased as the number of cycle and the fatigue wear were the dominant mechanism. In the stable stage, the friction coefficient kept stable and the wear volume rapidly increased as the number of cycle, the fatigue wear and abrasive wear were the dominative mechanism and oxidations of wear debris acted as important role. In addition, the wear volume increases as the load increased and decreases as the fretting frequency decreased.magnesium alloy; fretting wear; wear mechanism; friction coefficient
