Based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and alginate, antibacterial foams were prepared by adding antimicrobials into acetalization process. IR and XRD demonstrated the existence of acetalization process. SEM indicated interconnected and opencell structures of the PVA/alginate foams with large pore size and high porosities. The properties tests show that the best value of water absorption was obtained when alginate content was 20%. The largest tensile strength and breaking elongation of the blend foams were 0.24 MPa and 428.04% when alginate content was 30%. The foams containing higher nanosilver dispersion showed effective antimicrobial activity.
